WHAT DOES A SCHOOL COUNSELOR DO?


- Help all students achieve success in and out of school.
- Strive to remove barriers to learning.
- Ensure equal access to educational opportunities.
- Work with students individually when needed.
- Work with students in small groups on similar topics.
- Deliver classroom guidance lessons.
- Help create and maintain a positive school climate.
- Help promote safety around the school.
- Utilize outside resources at appropriate times.
- Monitor data for school improvement.
- Manage student programs.
- Support emergency situations.
- Monitor studnt progress throughout the year and from year-to-year.
- Help students identify problems, causes, alternative and possible consequences so they can take appropriate action.
- Help meet students immediate needs by counseling, consultation and referrals.
- Advocate for students day-to-day.
- Are a member of various child reams.
- Assist with Special Education.
- Work closely, build collaboration, and create partnerships with students, parents, administrators, and the community in identifying and resolving sudent issues, needs and problems.
